We do not provide case management support. Our practitioners work with referring agencies and other organisations in the family violence and community service sector and justice system to make sure that victims get the support they need.
As an Information Sharing Entity (ISE) in family violence matters, our practitioners will seek and share relevant information where required under the Family Violence Protection Act where it relates to family violence risk and safety.
Referral process
1. Agency identifies potential referral
The referrer calls or emails us to talk about a possible referral. The referrer and our Specialist Support Worker (SSW) then talk about the situation and needs of the victim and the possible role of restorative justice.
2. Agency discusses referral with victim/person harmed
The referrer talks to the victim about the option of using our service, and how it might meet their needs. They can also talk about the limitations of a restorative process and if a referral is right at this time.
3. Warm referral meeting
If the victim wants to be referred, a meeting will be held between the victim, the referrer and a SSW. During the meeting the SSW will explain our service in more detail and answer any questions. The SSW will also clarify if the victim is eligible.
4. We engage with client
Practitioners, the victim, the referring agency (where appropriate) and others - family, friends and any other professionals - work together to make sure the engagement is safe and effective.
If a victim contacts us on their own, a practitioner will arrange a phone call, video call or face-to-face meeting with them to talk about the service and their eligibility.
The victim may be using other support services already. With their permission, we will contact those service provider/s to:
- talk about the best ways to support the client
- make sure we share any important information.
