Being safe can mean many different things. You should feel safe during an emergency. You should feel safe at home, on the road, in your community and at work. If you are having a hard time, you should be able access the support you need.
A range of organisations in the department work to help keep Victorians safe and provide information and support to those who need it:
- Emergency Management Victoria (EMV) (External link) oversees emergency management in Victoria. EMV works with communities to prepare and plan for, withstand, respond to and recover from emergencies.
- The Community Safety Building Authority builds and upgrades important infrastructure needed to help keep the community safe.
- The Aboriginal Justice Agreement website (External link) provides information on activities aimed at improving safety for Aboriginal Victorians.
- Agencies regulate the gambling industry (External link) and provide support to people experiencing harm due to gambling (External link)
- Our crime prevention section provides information on current initiatives and activities. Local councils and community organisations can learn how to apply for a grant to deliver a crime prevention project.
