Update on LGBTIQ+ Legal Services
A representative of the Department of Justice and Community Safety provided an update on the budget outcome in relation to the LGBTIQ+ Legal Service confirming that funding has been provided to St Kilda Legal Service to support continuation of its LGBTIQ+ Legal Service. A submission will be developed to establish a community LGBTIQ+ Legal Service for next budget.
Victoria Police: Gender Equality and Inclusion
A representative from Victoria Police provided an update on work to address policy, practice and culture within the service. Members were updated on several matters relevant to LGBTIQ+ communities and were informed that Victoria Police was in the process of reviewing its inclusion strategies and action plans.
LGBTIQ+ Whole of Victorian Government Strategy
A representative from the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing provided an update on the Whole-of-Victorian Government LGBTIQ+ Strategy. It was noted that the strategy is nearing completion and will be provided to government in the last quarter of the year, with a final version expected to be released before the end of the 2021.
Discussion of forward agenda
Members discussed priorities for the remaining two meetings of 2021, which also signals the end of the term of this Working Group. Further feedback will be gathered before finalising remaining agendas.
