In July 2010 the former Attorney-General, the Hon Rob Hulls MP, provided the following reference to the council pursuant to section 110 of the Coroners Act 2008 (Vic):
The Coronial Council is requested to provide advice and make recommendations, where appropriate, on measures that could be adopted to assist those affected by coronial investigations in the course of their employment, including:
- approaches which adopt a therapeutic framework in the coronial system
- the identification of best practice models, including those which incorporate appropriate support, information, policies and procedures
- any recommendations and advice on engagement with relevant stakeholders in the development of those measures, and
- any recommendations and advice on the implementation and adoption of those measures.
In December 2010, the Hon Robert Clark MP was sworn in as Attorney-General. The council provided the Attorney-General with its interim report in February 2011, and its final report in October 2011.
