Specific matters considered
Whole of Government LGBTIQ+ Strategy
Representatives from the Department of Premier and Cabinet attended to provide an update on the development of the whole of government LGBTIQ+ Strategy. The Victorian Government has committed to develop a whole of government LGBTIQ Strategy to set a long-term vision and direction on LGBTIQ+ Equality.
Community consultation has been conducted to inform the next stage of the development of the LGBTIQ+ Strategy. Further opportunities for community input will be undertaken to shape the LGBTIQ+ Strategy before it is finalised.
LGBTIQ+ COVID-19 initiatives
Representatives from the Department of Premier and Cabinet attended to provide an overview of the Victorian Government support for LGBTIQ+ communities impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Targeted funding has been provided to well-established LGBTIQ+ community organisations to support LGBTIQ+ communities impacted by the pandemic. Nine initiatives have been funded to provide a range of supports to reduce social isolation and increase community connection, provide emergency financial and housing assistance and build the capability of organisations to manage the increased demand.
Births, Deaths and Marriages Policy for trans and gender diverse parents
Representatives from Births, Deaths and Marriages provided an overview of a policy that has been developed for trans and gender diverse parents wanting to correct their parental descriptor (mother, father, parent) and name in their child’s birth registration (and certificate), after altering their sex descriptor and name in their own birth registration.
