Between 2018 -2020, the Coronial Council undertook an own-motion review to address complexities in the definition of reportable deaths within section 4 of the Coroners Act 2008 (Vic), and to ensure that the coronial system can focus on investigating those deaths that are of the greatest public benefit – providing better insights to prevent future deaths.
Council’s final report was endorsed by the Attorney-General, Jaclyn Symes MP, in April 2021.
